![]() They are slightly slower Horse Archers but with much higher attack and defence. Persian Cavalry are the other horse archers of Parthia. Just run rings around enemies and just shoot them to pieces, if you don't believe me see the images below. Your frontiers will likely only produce this unit for your army due to the low population levels of many towns. You will be using this unit most of all since it is the first cavalry unit you can access. Horse Archers are an incredibly cost effective unit. Horse archers are a solid, standard, ranged cavalry unit. Their cavalry is excellent and one of the best in the game. Keep this in mind.Ĭavalry is where Parthia shines. A highly experienced archer unit can do high damage from range to even high armour units. Any sort of ranged unit is quite powerful due to the experience mechanic for troops. If you have some spare you might as well use them in battle. Useful for garrisoning frontline settlements. Since Parthia has horse archers with the same missile damage I take the mobility of the horse archers over the cheaper archers. Used en masse archers can be used very effectively, especially against the slow moving phalanx units. I have never used slingers, the bonus to attack and defence doesn't offset the better ranged attack of the archers. Honestly, only use them for garrisoning settlements for the public order bonus (even then peasants are cheaper so only do it if you can afford it).Īgain, a basic selection. Considering that you will be facing mostly phalanx units, it just won't work and you get to watch your men get slaughtered. The poor morale of the Eastern Infantry usually end up with them fleeing and the whole plan come crashing down. Eastern Infantry hold the line while the Hillmen try to flank. Hillmen and Eastern Infantry can be used to an okay effect in tandem. Parthia has an awful selection of infantry in fact they only have three to choose from and they all suck. For people such as myself, who thrive on cavalry, this is a good faction to be. If you do not enjoy using cavalry you should not be playing as Parthia, it won't be enjoyable. Parthia has a policy of 'Do one thing and do it well'. This will make public order penalties quite the hassle when conquering nations other than Armenia. Parthia also has the unfortunate characteristic of being one of only two Eastern culture fations. They also have a lack of Rebel settlements surrounding them, forcing Parthia into early wars against Armenia, Scythia and The Seleucid Empire. They are backed into the corner of the map, meaning that you will not have to worry about being unexpectedly attacked in the rear. The geopolitical situation of the Parthians is both a blessing and a curse. Most of the regions in the surrounding Caucasus are not very rich but will be enough to get by. It will be your base for expanding into the richer lands of the Seleucians and Egyptians. Of these three, Susa is the most beneficial. They all have poor economy and if you don't expand quickly, you will not be able to survive economically. ![]() None of them are very useful settlements. ![]() Parthia starts with only three settlements, Arsakia, Campus Sakae and Susa. The early game determines how well you do later on. The first tip in succeeding as Parthia is understanding their opening situation.
